In addition to working with high school seniors or families to create portraits, I also shoot sports teams. I mainly shoot action sports but can also do posed images of players as well. It seems like more parents are interested in seeing their kid in action so that is what I focus on more.
I love working with any sports team but my favorite time of year is baseball/softball season. Both of my boys played baseball from kindergarten through high school and it was so fun to watch. You can sit outside and while you are watching the game you can work on your tan! But with Missouri weather sometimes it is so humid you can cut the air with a knife or it might snow in April for the beginning of the season. You never know what you are going to get.
That is actually how I started MVP Images, using their teams as guinea pigs. I was interested in shooting action so I just started taking photos at all of their games. There is definitely a learning curve when you are trying to follow the ball and it helps to know the basic rules of the game. That way you can anticipate what is going to happen and be ready for it.
I have met many wonderful coaches, parents and players over the years and love it when I can grow with a team. Kids are fun to work with and also do goofy things sometimes. Ask me about the boy riding his bike naked and how that ties into baseball. It's a funny story!
Sports are a great way for kids to grow and learn. It teaches them team work, how to work for something they really want (like a certain position), it is good exercise and they develop friendships that they will have for the rest of their life. And of course, the photos they have will be something they can look at to remember their "glory days."

Andrea - What great sports photography! This is such an important part of kids’ lives and development. Photos capture personalities and freeze the excitement of the season.
